  • Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria: To treat hives and associated itching.

Pharmacology

Ebastine is a long-acting, selective H1-histamine receptor antagonist. When taken orally, it is rapidly absorbed and converted into its active metabolite, carebastine, which blocks peripheral histamine receptors responsible for allergic reactions.

    • Adults (>12 years): 10 mg (one tablet) once daily.
    • Children (6-12 years): 5 mg (half a tablet) once daily.
  • Syrup:
    • Children (2-5 years): 2.5 ml once daily (can be increased to 5 ml for severe perennial allergic rhinitis).
    • Children (6-12 years): 5 ml once daily (can be increased to 10 ml for severe perennial allergic rhinitis). Ebasten can be taken with or without food.

Interaction

  • Ketoconazole or Erythromycin: Taking Ebasten with these medications can increase its plasma levels and potentially prolong the QTc interval.
  • Alcohol or Diazepam: Ebasten may enhance their sedative effects.
  • Other Drugs: It does not have significant interactions with theophylline, warfarin, cimetidine, or other common drugs.
