🦴 CoralTab (Coral Calcium Carbonate & Vitamin D3)
CoralTab is a specialized supplement where the calcium is sourced from natural coral. Coral calcium has a chemical structure very similar to human bone and is often absorbed more effectively than traditional calcium sources. Vitamin D3 is included to ensure the calcium is actually absorbed into your bloodstream and bones.
📋 Indications
- Bone Health: Treatment and prevention of Osteoporosis (brittle bones) and Osteomalacia (soft bones).
- Deficiency States: Useful for rickets, hypoparathyroidism, and inadequate dietary calcium.
- Special Groups: Highly recommended as a supplement during pregnancy, lactation, and for elderly patients.
- Other Uses: Can act as a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure or as an adjunct in pancreatitis.
🥄 Dosage & Administration
- General Dose: One tablet once or twice daily.
- Pro Tip: Take the tablet with a full stomach and plenty of water to ensure maximum absorption.
- Effervescent Tablets: Dissolve 1 tablet in a glass of water, stir with a spoon, and drink immediately.
⚠️ Important Drug Interactions
Calcium can interfere with how other medicines work. To stay safe:
- Antibiotics: Take Tetracycline preparations at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after your calcium tablet.
- Thyroid/Bone Meds: If taking bisphosphonates or fluoride, wait at least 3 hours before taking CoralTab.
- Dietary Note: Avoid taking calcium within 2 hours of eating foods high in oxalic acid (spinach, rhubarb) or phytic acid (whole cereals), as they block absorption.
⚠️ Side Effects & Contraindications
- Common: May cause constipation or mild stomach irritation.
- Serious (Rare): High doses over a long time can lead to Hypercalcemia (too much calcium in the blood), resulting in nausea, dry mouth, or irregular heartbeats.
- Do Not Use If: You have severe kidney failure, kidney stones, or high calcium levels in your blood.
🤰 Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safe & Recommended: This is a standard supplement for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
- Limit: During pregnancy, do not exceed 1500 mg of calcium and 600 IU of Vitamin D daily. Since Vitamin D passes into breast milk, inform your pediatrician if your baby is also receiving Vitamin D drops.
