Coralcal-Vita 

Presentation: Tablets containing Calcium Carbonate (from Coral source) and Vitamin D3. Available in various strengths, including 500mg Calcium with 200 IU Vitamin D3, and 600mg Calcium with 400 IU Vitamin D3 (often labeled as Coralcal-Vita DX). Also available as effervescent tablets containing 600mg Calcium and 400 IU Vitamin D3. Manufactured by Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Ingredients: Calcium Carbonate USP (from Coral source) equivalent to elemental Calcium (strength specified on packaging) and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) USP (strength specified on packaging).

Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of Calcium and Vitamin D deficiency. Used in conditions such as osteoporosis, osteomalacia, tetany, hypoparathyroidism, and disorders of osteogenesis. Also used as a supplement in cases of inadequate Calcium intake in childhood, rickets, pregnancy and lactation, and in elderly patients. Other uses include as a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure and in pancreatitis.

Dosage & Administration: Dosage depends on the strength and the individual's needs.

  • Tablet (500mg + 200 IU): Usually 1-2 tablets daily or as directed by a physician.
  • Tablet DX (600mg + 400 IU): Usually 1 tablet daily or as directed by a physician.
  • Effervescent Tablet (600mg + 400 IU): 1 effervescent tablet daily, dissolved in half a glass of water and taken immediately. It is generally recommended to take the tablet with or just after a meal for better absorption.

Side Effects: Orally administered Calcium Carbonate may cause gastrointestinal irritation and constipation. Rarely, hypercalcaemia may occur, especially in patients with chronic renal failure on high doses. Other possible side effects include allergic reactions, irregular heartbeats, nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, dry mouth, and drowsiness. Skin rash may occur following Vitamin D supplementation.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with hypercalcaemia, hyperparathyroidism, hypercalciuria, nephrolithiasis, severe renal insufficiency, bone metastases, and Vitamin D3 overdosage. Use with caution in immobilized patients with osteoporosis, mild to moderate renal impairment, and those with a history of renal stones. Monitor serum calcium levels, especially with concomitant use of cardiac glycosides or diuretics. May interact with tetracycline and fluoride preparations (allow 3 hours between doses), thiazide diuretics, systemic corticosteroids, phenytoin, barbiturates, and certain foods (spinach, cereals, milk).

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children. Keep effervescent tablet tubes tightly closed.
