Co-Dopa CR 125

Presentation:

• Each controlled-release tablet contains 100 mg of Levodopa BP and 25 mg of Carbidopa BP. 

Indications: Co-Dopa CR 125 is indicated for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, particularly to reduce "off-periods" in patients who have previously been treated with levodopa/decarboxylase inhibitors or levodopa alone and have experienced motor fluctuations. It is also used to treat symptoms such as:

• Rigidity
• Bradykinesia (slowness of movement)  
• Tremor
• Swallowing difficulties
• Excessive salivation
• Postural instability

Dosage and Administration:

• Dosage is highly individualized and must be determined by a physician.
• For patients currently on conventional levodopa/decarboxylase inhibitor combinations, the initial dose of Co-Dopa CR 125 should be substituted at an amount that provides no more than approximately 10% more levodopa per day when higher dosages are given (more than 900 mg per day).
• The dosing interval between doses should be prolonged by 30 to 50% at intervals ranging from 4 to 12 hours.
• It is recommended to give the smaller dose, if divided doses are not equal, at the end of the day.  
• Levodopa must be discontinued at least eight hours before starting Co-Dopa CR 125 in patients previously treated with levodopa alone.
• Co-Dopa CR 125 tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed.  

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Dyskinesia (involuntary movements)
• Nausea  
• Hallucinations
• Confusion
• Dizziness
• Dry mouth  
• Sleep disorders  
• Dystonia (muscle spasms)
• Insomnia  
• Depression
• Weakness

Less common but potentially serious side effects include neuroleptic malignant syndrome and changes in heart rhythm. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe side effects.

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor if you have any allergies to levodopa, carbidopa, or any other ingredients in Co-Dopa CR 125.
• Use with caution in patients with:
  • Heart problems
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Dementia or psychosis
  • Glaucoma  
• May cause drowsiness and dizziness. Exercise caution while driving or operating machinery. 
• Avoid abrupt withdrawal of the medication. Dosage should be gradually reduced under medical supervision. 
• The safety of Co-Dopa CR 125 during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established. Consult your doctor before using this medication if you are pregnant,planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.  
• Elderly patients may be more susceptible to certain side effects.  

Storage:

• Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture.
• Keep out of the reach of children.
