Citra-K is a highly concentrated oral solution of Potassium Citrate. Once ingested, it is absorbed and completely metabolized by the liver into potassium bicarbonate, acting as a highly effective systemic and urinary alkalizer.
By raising and stabilizing the pH of urine (making it less acidic), Citra-K directly prevents minerals from crystallizing and solidifying into painful stones. It achieves round-the-clock urinary alkalinization without altering gastric juices, disrupting your normal digestion, or causing systemic alkalosis when taken at recommended doses.
Citra-K is indicated for:
UTI Comfort: Rapidly relieving the burning discomfort and irritation associated with urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Kidney Stone Prevention: Long-term management and prevention of uric acid and cystine kidney stones (calculi), especially when sodium-based salts cannot be used.
Gout Management: Serving as a crucial add-on therapy alongside uricosuric (uric acid-lowering) drugs to stop urate crystals from crashing out and solidifying in acidic urine.
Renal Acidosis: Correcting metabolic acidosis caused by specific kidney conditions (like renal tubular disorders).
To prevent direct stomach irritation, nausea, or a saline laxative effect, Citra-K must always be taken after meals and fully diluted in water as outlined below. For a more pleasant taste, you can chill the solution before mixing.
Adults & Children over 6 years: Mix 10 ml of solution into 1 full glass of water, 3 times a day.
Children 1 to 6 years: Mix 5 ml of solution into ½ glass of water, 3 times a day.
Adults: Mix 10 to 15 ml of solution into 1 full glass of water, 4 times a day (after meals and right before bed).
Children: Mix 5 to 10 ml of solution into ½ glass of water, 4 times a day, or as specifically calculated by a pediatrician.
Because this solution introduces concentrated potassium into your system, your body relies entirely on healthy kidneys to flush out the excess. If your body's filtration mechanisms are impaired, potassium can build up to dangerous levels (hyperkalemia), which can reach lethal thresholds within a matter of hours.
🛑 Watch for Signs of High Potassium: Immediately stop taking Citra-K and seek emergency medical care if you experience listlessness, severe muscle weakness, mental confusion, or a tingling sensation (pins and needles) in your hands, feet, or lips.
Taking Citra-K concurrently with any of the following can lead to sudden potassium toxicity. Do not combine them unless under direct medical supervision:
Potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g., Spironolactone).
ACE Inhibitors or ARBs for blood pressure (e.g., Ramipril, Losartan).
Cardiac glycosides (e.g., Digestion medications like Digoxin).
Other potassium-containing supplements.
Do not use Citra-K if you suffer from:
Severe renal impairment accompanied by oliguria (very low urine output) or azotemia (build-up of nitrogen wastes).
Untreated Addison's disease (adrenal insufficiency).
Acute dehydration or severe, unmanaged heart muscle damage.
Pre-existing hyperkalemia from any cause.
There is insufficient safety data regarding the use of potassium citrate solutions during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It should not be used by pregnant or nursing mothers unless it is deemed absolutely necessary and explicitly monitored by a physician.
Keep the bottle stored below 30°C in a dry place. Protect from direct light, keep the cap tightly sealed, and ensure it remains entirely out of the reach of children.
