Candistin Ear Drop is a comprehensive, multi-ingredient otic solution manufactured by UniMed UniHealth Pharmaceuticals Ltd. It is specifically formulated to combat complex ear infections by combining an antibacterial, an antifungal, an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid, and a local anesthetic.
Candistin is indicated for treating superficial bacterial and fungal infections of the external auditory canal and the middle ear. Its ingredients target:
Bacterial Infections: Powered by Ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone that blocks bacterial DNA gyrase without causing ototoxicity (ear damage). It is highly effective against common otic pathogens like Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus.
Fungal Infections: Powered by Clotrimazole, which disrupts fungal cell wall integrity to eliminate organisms like Candida and Trichophyton. It also acts against certain bacteria, making it ideal for mixed infections.
Inflammation & Itching: Powered by Beclomethasone Dipropionate, a potent steroid that suppresses inflammatory mediators to reduce swelling, redness, and itching.
Pain Relief: Powered by Lidocaine Hydrochloride, a local anesthetic that rapidly numbs earache and stinging sensations.
Standard Dose: Instill 2–5 drops three to four times daily into the affected ear for 7 to 14 days.
Age-Specific Approvals:
Otitis Externa (with an intact eardrum): Approved for adults and children aged 6 months and older.
Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (with a perforated eardrum): Approved for patients aged 12 years and older.
Tilt your head to one side so the affected ear faces upward.
For Adults & Children over 3 years: Gently pull the ear lobe up and backward to straighten the canal before instilling drops.
For Children under 3 years: Gently pull the ear lobe down and backward.
Remain in the tilted position for a few minutes to allow the drops to penetrate.
Do Not Use If: You have a known hypersensitivity to Ofloxacin, other quinolone antibiotics, or any component of this medication.
Viral Infections: It is strictly contraindicated for viral infections of the ear.
Usage Limits: If a favorable response is not achieved within one week, use should be discontinued and a culture test performed. Avoid prolonged use to prevent the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms.
Crucial Warning: This is for otic use only. It is not for ophthalmic (eye) use and not for injection.
Systemic side effects are rare. Localized reactions can include:
Temporary itching, burning, irritation, or dryness in the ear canal.
Earache, headache, dizziness, or vertigo.
