Broncho-Vaxom 3.5 mg: Advanced Respiratory Immunotherapy
Broncho-Vaxom is a specialized immunotherapy agent manufactured by ZAS Corporation (and formulated by OM Pharma SA, Switzerland). It contains Lyophilized Bacterial Lysates (OM-85), an extract of inactivated bacterial strains commonly responsible for respiratory ailments. It acts as an oral vaccine to stimulate the body's natural defense mechanisms.
📋 Indications: Targeted Respiratory Protection
Broncho-Vaxom is not designed to treat active, sudden illnesses. Instead, it is indicated for:
- Prevention of Recurrent RTIs: Reducing the frequency of recurrent respiratory tract infections in susceptible individuals.
- Chronic Bronchitis Management: Preventing acute infective flare-ups (exacerbations) in chronic bronchitis patients.
🔬 Composition & Active Bacterial Strains
Each 3.5 mg capsule delivers a precise combination of lyophilized fractions from 21 inactivated bacterial strains, including:
- Haemophilus influenzae & Streptococcus pneumoniae
- Klebsiella pneumoniae (ssp. pneumoniae and ozaenae)
- Staphylococcus aureus & Moraxella catarrhalis
- Streptococcus pyogenes & Streptococcus sanguinis
🥄 Dosage and Standard Prophylactic Schedule
- Target Group (6 Months to 12 Years & Adults): 1 capsule daily taken on an empty stomach.
- The 3-Month Pulse Cycle: Take 1 capsule daily for 10 consecutive days per month, repeated for 3 consecutive months.
- Acute Phase Co-administration: While it doesn't treat acute symptoms, this preventive cycle can safely be initiated during an active infection alongside standard treatments (like antibiotics).
- Pediatric Suspension Tip: If a young child struggles to swallow the capsule, it can be opened and the contents mixed thoroughly into water, milk, or fruit juice. Drink the entire mixture within a few minutes.
- Age Restriction: It is not recommended for infants under 6 months of age due to limited clinical data.
⚠️ Side Effects & Important Alerts
While generally well-tolerated, some individuals may experience:
- Common Reactions (1% to 10%): Headaches, coughing, diarrhea, abdominal pain, or mild skin rash.
- Uncommon Reactions (<1%): Nausea, vomiting, fatigue, or localized hypersensitivity (swelling, itching, hives).
- 👉 Crucial Directive: If you experience persistent stomach issues or respiratory irritation, or show signs of an allergic reaction (like swelling of the face/eyelids or breathing difficulties), stop taking the medication immediately and consult your doctor.
🛑 Contraindications & Limitations
- Contraindications: Do not use if there is a known hypersensitivity to the bacterial lysates or any of the inactive excipients.
