Bromolac Tablet - (2.5mg)

Presentation: Each tablet contains 2.5 mg of Bromocriptine Mesylate. It is available in strips of 15 tablets.

Indications: Bromolac is a dopamine receptor agonist and prolactin inhibitor used to treat conditions caused by an excess production of prolactin, a natural hormone. These conditions include:

  • High levels of prolactin (Hyperprolactinemia): This can cause abnormal breast milk production (galactorrhea) and suppression of sex glands, leading to infertility or hypogonadism.
  • Female infertility: By regulating ovulation and menstruation in women who are not having periods due to high prolactin levels.
  • Acromegaly: A hormonal disorder due to excessive growth hormone secretion in adults. Bromolac helps to decrease growth hormone levels.

Dosage and Administration: It is recommended to take Bromolac with food to avoid side effects like nausea or indigestion. The dosage is individualized and should be taken as per your doctor's advice. The usual initial dosage for hyperprolactinemic conditions is 0.5 mg to 2.5 mg daily, which may be gradually increased. For acromegaly, the initial dose is typically 0.5 to 2.5 mg at bedtime with food for 3 days, with gradual increases as tolerated.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include nausea, headache, dizziness, fatigue, lightheadedness, vomiting, abdominal cramps, nasal congestion, constipation, diarrhea, and drowsiness. A slight lowering of blood pressure may also occur.

Precautions: Inform your doctor if you have uncontrolled hypertension or sensitivity to ergot alkaloids. Use with caution in patients with a history of psychosis or cardiovascular disease. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Bromolac. It is generally considered safe during pregnancy if prescribed, but consult your doctor regarding breastfeeding as it may pass into breast milk and suppress lactation.
