Biozinc 

Presentation: Capsules or Syrup containing Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate. Available in various strengths (e.g., 10 mg elemental Zinc per 5 ml syrup or per capsule) and pack sizes.

Ingredients: Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate USP (equivalent to elemental Zinc, amount specified on packaging). Syrup may contain other excipients for palatability and stability. Some formulations may also include B-complex vitamins.

Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of zinc deficiency. Zinc is essential for numerous bodily functions including immune function, wound healing, growth and development, taste and smell perception, and maintenance of healthy skin, hair, and nails. May be used in conditions such as growth retardation, skin lesions, increased susceptibility to infections, diarrhea, and impaired wound healing.

Dosage & Administration: Dosage depends on the age, weight, and the severity of the zinc deficiency, as directed by a physician.

• Syrup:
  • Children under 10 kg: 5 ml (1 teaspoonful) 2 times daily.
  • Children between 10-30 kg: 10 ml (2 teaspoonfuls) 1-3 times daily.
  • Adults and children over 30 kg: 20 ml (4 teaspoonfuls) 1-3 times daily.
• Capsule: Adults and children over a certain weight, as directed by a physician. Usually 1 capsule daily.
• It is generally recommended to take zinc supplements 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. If stomach upset occurs, it can be taken with food. Avoid taking with milk, bran, grains, or cereals within 2 hours of administration as they can interfere with zinc absorption.

Side Effects: Side effects are more common if taken on an empty stomach. May include abdominal pain, dyspepsia (indigestion), nausea, and vomiting. Chronic high doses may lead to copper deficiency and associated anemia and neutropenia.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to zinc. Accumulation of zinc may occur in renal failure, requiring dosage adjustment. Zinc may inhibit the absorption of concurrently administered tetracycline antibiotics and some fluoroquinolones; an interval of at least 3 hours should be maintained between their administration. High doses of zinc may interfere with copper and iron absorption. Use with caution in individuals with Wilson's disease.

Storage: Store in a cool place. The syrup should be protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
