Indications

This topical cream is indicated for the treatment of inflammatory skin infections caused by a combination of inflammation and bacterial or fungal agents. It is specifically used for:

  • Tinea pedis (athlete's foot)
  • Tinea cruris (jock itch)
  • Tinea corporis (ringworm)

Pharmacology

This cream combines two active ingredients:

  • Clotrimazole: A broad-spectrum antifungal that works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a key component of the fungal cell membrane. This causes the cell membrane to become unstable, leading to the death of the fungus.
  • Betamethasone Dipropionate: A corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, anti-itch, and vasoconstrictive properties. It helps to reduce the redness, swelling, and itching associated with the skin condition.

Dosage & Administration

Apply a sufficient amount of the cream to the affected and surrounding skin areas twice a day, in the morning and evening. The duration of treatment is typically:

  • 2 weeks for tinea cruris and tinea corporis.
  • 4 weeks for tinea pedis. The cream should not be used for more than four weeks. Its safety and effectiveness have not been established in children under 12 years of age.

Interaction

There is no information available regarding drug interactions with this topical preparation.

Contraindications

This cream is contraindicated in patients who are sensitive to any of its components or to other corticosteroids or imidazoles. It should also not be used for facial rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis, perianal and genital pruritus, napkin eruptions, or bacterial and viral infections.

Side Effects

Common adverse reactions reported in clinical trials include paresthesia (tingling or numbness), burning, dry skin, rash, edema (swelling), and secondary infection. Stinging may also occur.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There is inadequate evidence of safety for use during pregnancy. Topical administration of corticosteroids to pregnant animals can cause fetal abnormalities. Therefore, this cream should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk. It is not known whether the components are excreted in human milk, so caution should be exercised when treating nursing mothers.

Overdose Effects

Acute overdose with this topical cream is unlikely to be life-threatening. The cream should not be used for longer than the prescribed time period to avoid potential side effects from prolonged use.

Therapeutic Class

This medication is classified as a Betamethasone & Combined preparation.

Storage Conditions
