Bepanthin Cream contains Permethrin, a potent pyrethroid that serves as a highly effective topical anti-parasitic agent. It works by targeting the nerve cell membranes of pests, disrupting the sodium channels that regulate electrical polarization. This disturbance causes delayed repolarization, leading to the total paralysis and death of the parasites.
Bepanthin is indicated for the definitive elimination of:
Scabies: Infestations caused by the microscopic mite Sarcoptes scabiei.
Crab Lice (Pediculosis): Public and body lice infestations.
👉 Crucial Note: Scabies spreads easily through close contact. If one person in a household is infected, all family members must be treated at the same time to prevent re-infestation.
Adults and Children >12 years: Use 1 full tube.
Children 6–12 years: Use up to $\frac{1}{2}$ of a tube.
Children 1–5 years: Use up to $\frac{1}{4}$ of a tube.
Infants 2 months to 1 year: Use up to $\frac{1}{8}$ of a tube.
Infants <2 months: Safety and dosage have not been established.
For maximum efficacy, the medication must be applied precisely:
Preparation: Ensure your skin is completely clean, cool, and dry. Do not take a hot bath or shower immediately before applying, as this increases unwanted systemic absorption.
Adults & Children (>2 years): Rub the cream lightly into the skin from the neck down to the soles of the feet. Be sure to include hard-to-reach areas like between fingers/toes, under the nails, and all skin folds.
Babies (<2 years): Apply to the body, plus the face, neck, ears, and scalp. Avoid only the skin directly surrounding the mouth and eyes.
Duration: Leave the cream on the skin for at least 8 hours before washing it off. If you wash an area during this window (like washing your hands), you must reapply the cream to that spot.
Retreatment: If necessary, a second application can be done after 7 days under a doctor's guidance.
Steroid Interaction: Avoid using topical corticosteroids (for eczema) right before using Bepanthin. Steroids suppress local immune responses, which can worsen the scabies infestation.
Side Effects: You may experience brief skin discomfort, such as burning, stinging, tingling, redness (erythema), swelling (edema), or increased itching (pruritus) shortly after application.
Ocular Caution: Avoid any contact with the eyes. Flush immediately with water if accidental contact occurs.
Pregnancy: Use during pregnancy only if specifically advised by a medical professional.
Lactation: It is unknown if permethrin passes into breast milk; its use is not recommended for nursing mothers.
Store in a cool, dry place, away from light.
