Overview & Indications

Azofend is a broad-spectrum triazole antifungal indicated for patients 12 years and older to treat severe fungal infections, including:

• Invasive aspergillosis

• Nonneutropenic candidemia and disseminated Candida infections (skin, abdomen, kidney, bladder, wounds, esophagus)

• Infections caused by Scedosporium apiospermum and Fusarium species

• Patients intolerant of or non-responsive to other therapies

How It Works

Voriconazole inhibits fungal CYP450-dependent 14-alpha sterol demethylase, depleting ergosterol and disrupting the fungal cell membrane.

Dosing & Administration

Always follow a registered physician's instructions. Take oral forms 1 hour before or 1 hour after meals.

Safety & Warnings

• Contraindications: Do not co-administer with CYP450 substrates/inducers such as rifampin, carbamazepine, efavirenz, sirolimus, cisapride, or ergot alkaloids.

• Side Effects: Nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, chest pain, anemia, and visual disturbances (blurred vision).

• Precautions: Use >180 days increases the risk of Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) of the skin. Use during pregnancy only if benefits outweigh fetal risks. Safety in children under 12 is not established.

Reconstitution & Storage

• Oral Suspension: Add 25 mL of boiled, cooled water; shake vigorously. Store reconstituted suspension at 15°–30°C and discard after 14 days.

• Storage: Keep below 25°C in a dry, light-protected place. Unreconstituted powder for suspension should be kept at 2°–8°C. Keep away from children.
