Angenta

Presentation: Each tablet of Angenta typically contains Flupentixol Hydrochloride BP equivalent to Flupentixol 0.5 mg and Melitracen Hydrochloride INN equivalent to Melitracen10 mg. It is usually available in blister packs containing strips of tablets, with the number of tablets per pack determined by the manufacturer in Bangladesh (e.g., Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Ltd.).

Indications: Angenta is indicated for the treatment of anxiety, depression, apathy, psychogenic depression, depressive neuroses, masked depression, psychosomatic affections accompanied by anxiety and apathy, menopausal depressions, and dysphoria and depression in alcoholics and drug addicts. It combines a neuroleptic with anxiolytic and antidepressant properties (flupentixol) and a bipolar thymoleptic with activating properties (melitracen).

Dosage and Administration: The usual dosage for adults is 2 tablets orally daily, taken in the morning and at noon. In severe cases, the morning dose may be increased to 2 tablets. For elderly patients, the usual dose is 1 tablet in the morning. The maintenance dose is usually 1 tablet orally in the morning. In cases of insomnia or severe restlessness, additional treatment with a sedative in the acute phasemay be recommended. The tablets should be swallowed with fluid.

Side Effects: In the recommended doses, side effects are generally rare. They may include transient restlessness and insomnia. Other potential side effects, although less common, can include dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, increased heart rate, and urinary retention.

Precautions: Angenta should not be given to patients in the immediate recovery phase after myocardial infarction, with defects in bundle-branch conduction, untreated narrow-angle glaucoma, or acute alcohol, barbiturate, and opiate intoxications. It should not be administered to patients who have received an MAO-inhibitor within the previous two weeks. It is generally not recommended for excitable or overactive patients as its activating effect may exacerbate these characteristics. Caution should be exercised in patients with epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, liver disease, cardiac disease, severe respiratory disease, or renal failure. It should preferably not be given during pregnancy and lactation. If the patient has previously been treated with tranquillizers with a sedative effect, these should be withdrawn gradually. Alcohol should be avoided while taking this medication as it may enhance the response.

Storage: Store Angenta tablets at a temperature not exceeding 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
