Aminosol 5 IV 

Presentation: Sterile, aqueous solution containing 5% amino acids (essential and non-essential), D-sorbitol, and electrolytes (Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium, Chloride, Acetate).

Indications: Source of amino acids for protein synthesis in patients needing intravenous nutrition, especially those with basal amino acid requirements. May be used post-surgery, in burns, renal/hepatic insufficiency, cancer management, and nutritional deficiencies.

Dosage and Administration: Individualized based on patient condition, weight, and metabolic needs. Typical nitrogen requirement for maintenance is 0.10-0.25 g/kg/day (15-35 ml/kg/day). Infuse slowly under medical supervision, usually at 1.4-2.8 ml/min.

Side Effects: Generally well-tolerated. Rare nausea. Possible vomiting, flushing, sweating (if infused too fast), transient liver function changes, hypersensitivity, thrombophlebitis (peripheral vein). May cause hyperphenylalaninemia in premature infants. May increase urinary loss of zinc and copper with long-term use.

Precautions: Contraindicated in inborn errors of amino acid metabolism, permanent liver damage, acute uremia without dialysis. Use caution in diabetes, severe heart failure, renal impairment with fluid restriction/oliguria/anuria. Monitor potassium and blood glucose. Ensure adequate phosphate. Do not use if turbid or with particles.

Storage: Protect from light, store between 15-25°C. Avoid freezing. Keep out of reach of children. Discard unused portion.
