Alinix 500 

Presentation: Each film-coated tablet contains Nitazoxanide INN 500 mg. Alinix 500 is a brand name marketed by Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh. It is usually available in blister packs.

Indications: Alinix (Nitazoxanide) is indicated for the treatment of diarrhea caused by:

• Cryptosporidium parvum   
• Giardia lamblia   
• Entamoeba histolytica   

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose for adults and children 12 years or above is one 500 mg tablet every 12 hours for 3 days. It is recommended to be administered with food.

Side Effects: The most frequent side effects reported with Alinix are abdominal pain, vomiting, and headache. These side effects are typically mild and transient. Very rare side effects may include nausea, anorexia, flatulence, increased appetite, enlarged salivary glands, increased creatinine & SGPT level, pruritus, rhinitis, sweating, dizziness, and discolored urine.

Precautions: Alinix (Nitazoxanide) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to nitazoxanide or any components of the preparation. Caution should be exercised when administering Alinix concurrently with other highly plasma protein-bound drugs with a narrow therapeutic index. Alinix must be administered with caution to patients with hepatic & biliary disease and to patients with renal disease.  

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: The US FDA pregnancy category for Nitazoxanide is B. It should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Nitazoxanide has been shown to be excreted in human milk. So, caution should be exercised when Alinix is administered during lactation.

Storage: Keep in a dry place away from light and heat. Keep out of the reach of children. Store below 30°C.
